Mandatory training and licensing conditions

All information on mandatory training (CPD) for licensed DGNB Certification experts and general licensing conditions

In order to maintain your licence(s) as a DGNB Certification expert, the licence agreement requires you to provide evidence of DGNB CPD points earned each year. Upon signing the licence agreement, proof of CPD points must be provided from the following calendar year onwards (the examination date stated on the certificate of approval applies). We will remind you several times during the year by email to renew your licence.

Required DGNB CPD points for licence renewal

DGNB Senior Auditor: 8 CPD points in 2 years
(alternatively: 4 CPD points per year)
DGNB Auditor: 8 CPD points
DGNB Consultant: 6 CPD points
DGNB ESG Manager: 6 CPD points
DGNB Biodiversity Manager: 6 CPD points

Note: If you hold multiple licences, it is sufficient to meet the highest number of CPD points required to maintain the licence status for all of them.

Under certain conditions, you are automatically exempt from the mandatory training as a licensed DGNB Certification expert:

You are an active member of a DGNB comittee.
You are a DGNB Trainer or speaker at DGNB Academy events (minimum commitment of 2 x 90 minutes).
You are actively involved in the development of a new DGNB System throughout the entire development period. In this case, please send us an email to ausbildung@dgnb.de afterwards.

In the following special cases, the mandatory training may be suspended for one calendar year:

You are on sick leave for more than 6 months in the relevant calendar year and are not working during this time.
You are on parental leave for more than 6 months in the relevant calendar year and are not working during this time.
Similar special cases upon review

In these cases, please inform us of the expected duration of your absence via email to ausbildung@dgnb.de.

If you do not earn any or enough CPD points in the respective calendar year, your licence will become inactive at the end of the year. This affects the following aspects, among others:

You will no longer be listed in the expert search on the DGNB website.
You will no longer be allowed to submit projects for certification to the DGNB.
You will no longer have access to the exclusive myDGNB groups for DGNB Certification experts.
You will no longer be permitted to use the corresponding logo as a DGNB Certification expert.
You will no longer receive the exclusive DGNB newsletter for DGNB Certification experts.

If you wish to resume your licence in the following calendar year, you must make up for the CPD points from the previous year. You must then send an email to ausbildung@dgnb.de so that we can reactivate your licence. To maintain your licence, you must regularly accrue CPD points throughout the current calendar year.

If you suspend your mandatory training for a period longer than one calendar year, you must consult with the DGNB Academy to determine how you can regain your licence.

All options to maintain your licence at a glance

You can maintain your licence by attending a DGNB expert day or other training courses offered by the DGNB Academy. By submitting and successfully certifying a project, you also earn CPD points.

Please note: The events for continuing professional development listed here are held exclusively in German. Opportunities to earn CPD points for licensed DGNB ESG Managers who have completed their training in English will be published at a later date.

In addition, we (partially) recognise the following options for maintaining your licence, subject to review and suitability:

You attend a comparable, recognised, fee-based event on the topic of sustainable building or building operation at another educational institution. (This also applies, for example, to DGNB Certification experts who also hold a licence with one of our DGNB System Partners and fulfil their mandatory trainings there.)
You give a lecture at a comparable recognised event on the topic of sustainable building or building operation for another educational institution.
You publish a comprehensive scientific paper on the subject of sustainable building or building operation.

In these cases, please send us relevant documentation and information (content, scope, etc.) about the event or publication by email to ausbildung@dgnb.de. We will then check whether and to what extent we can recognise this for licence renewal.

The recognition of the corresponding CPD points will occur after an officially issued (participation) confirmation has been sent by email to ausbildung@dgnb.de.

General licensing conditions

Licence agreements are in place for licensed DGNB (Senior) Auditors, DGNB Consultants, DGNB ESG Managers and DGNB Biodiversity Managers, which require mandatory training.
