First steps for new DGNB members

The perfect way to get started with your DGNB membership

Becoming a member

Have you completed your DGNB membership registration? If so, we’d like to extend a warm welcome to Europe’s largest network for sustainable construction! We’re delighted to have you on board!
Once your membership is complete, you’ll receive a welcome email from our member services team, who will also be on hand to assist you with any administrative queries throughout your membership.
But what happens next? How can you make the most of your DGNB membership for yourself and your organisation? This is exactly where we’d like to guide you with this checklist. After all, with such a wide range of options available, it’s not always easy to keep track of everything.

1. Create a DGNB user account

If you have completed your membership application using a signed PDF document, the first thing you should do is create a DGNB user account online. This is the central hub where you can manage all your personal and organisational details yourself. If you submitted your membership application directly online, you already have a DGNB user account and can proceed straight to step 2.

2. Create your own profile and increase your visibility

Every organisation can create a member profile, which will be displayed on the DGNB website. If you are listed as the main contact for your organisation, you can update this via your DGNB user account. Please do take the time to fill in your performance specification carefully, as using the right keywords will ensure that website users can find you via the search function. In addition, all employees of your organisation have the option to create a personal profile. This serves as your digital showcase.

2. Enjoy exclusive benefits with myDGNB

With your DGNB User Account, you are automatically registered for our digital networking platform, myDGNB. There, we not only bring together the latest key Information about the DGNB on a daily basis; you also have the opportunity to exchange ideas in exclusive and public groups. One of these exclusive groups is specifically for members. There you’ll also find the logo pack and the accompanying style guide available for download. This allows you to promote your DGNB membership within your network.

4. Subscribe to the newsletter and stay informed

One final step you should take in your DGNB User Account is to subscribe to the various newsletter formats. As well as the dedicated newsletter for members, there are others covering events or international topics. In the same section, you can also choose whether you’d like to be notified by email regarding news on myDGNB, so that you don’t miss any news relevant to you from the groups you’ve subscribed to.

5. Navigating the wide range of options

To find out which of the DGNB’s services might be relevant to you, please refer to our target-group-specific landing pages on the DGNB website. If you would like to find out more, you can attend the wide range of digital information events that we offer on a regular basis. These include the introductory format “DGNB compact” and the webinar “News from the DGNB”, in which we provide quarterly updates on the latest developments within the association. These events are held in German.

6. Identifying the relevant contacts at the DGNB

An ideal way to get started is to attend the DGNB Welcome Day for new members, which we host twice a year at our Living Showroom for sustainable construction in Stuttgart. During this all-round feel-good day, you’ll get to meet many of your fellow professionals from the DGNB office in person and gain in-depth insights into the various services offered by the association, the DGNB Academy and the certification body. A nice added bonus: you’ll have the chance to chat directly with other member organisations right from the start. Event held in German.

7. Benefit from special terms on all paid offers

Ultimately, we always encourage our members to make full use of the services offered by the DGNB Academy, DGNB certification and the DGNB Navigator.  In doing so, you will always benefit from significantly more favourable special rates for all staff. This naturally also applies to the licensing requirements for DGNB Auditors and other qualifications. Do take a look at our varied seminar program, where you can undertake further education on a wide range of specialist topics.

8. Make valuable contacts at networking events

The best way to find out what it means to be a member of the DGNB is to attend one of our networking events. That's because all our events have one thing in common: you'll meet only people who care deeply about sustainability and are keen to forge new partnerships. Our general assembly is the perfect opportunity for this. It always takes place on the DGNB Sustainability Day. As part of our ‘DGNB on the Move’ series, we visit certified projects across Germany. Our latest networking event is the ‘Forum for Sustainable Architecture’ architecture congress.

Please do get in touch if you’re interested. You can also take part in our current system development projects and other workshops. Among other things, we are currently running a ‘Future Workshop on Existing Buildings’, for which we are planning numerous sessions. In addition, the DGNB Idea Lab offers a participatory format where we discuss key future areas of sustainable construction collectively with you.

Would you like to gain greater visibility within the DGNB network beyond your member profile? With the DGNB Sustainability Challenge and the German Sustainability Award for Architecture, we organise two annual competitions for which you can apply – offering significant PR benefits for the winners and finalists. At our digital DGNB Annual Congress and other events, we offer a free ‘Open Stage’ specifically for members, where they can introduce themselves through short presentations. PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

11. Discover and make use of the DGNB Living Showroom

As a non-profit association, it is important to us to open the DGNB office to DGNB members and interested parties. We therefore warmly invite you to discover our sustainably designed premises on a guided tour of the building. You can also hire the Living Showroom for your event or meeting with partners and clients, including a comprehensive service package. We would also be happy to give your guests a guided tour of our Living Showroom. If desired, we offer the option of booking a DGNB expert as a speaker for your event.

+ Spreading membership benefits throughout the organisation

All the benefits of membership apply not only to you personally, but to all members of your organisation. To make the most of your membership, you should inform everyone in your organisation that you have joined the DGNB network and that various offers now apply to them as well. What may be less exciting for you could well be of interest to colleagues in PR and marketing, product and business development, or other specialist departments.
