The German Sustainable Building Council was founded in 2007 and has around 2,000 members, making it Europe's biggest network for sustainable building. It was the brainchild of 16 pioneers from the construction and property industry. The goal at the time was to promote and foster sustainable building. The DGNB was officially launched on 25 June 2007 with 121 founding members.

To provide an overarching framework for the organisation, the DGNB has a board of directors consisting of pioneers and thought leaders. Our board directors also reflect all disciplines with a bearing on the building and property industry. For an overview of the DGNB Board of Directors, click here.
Approximately 500 volunteers work on DGNB committees and panels, all on an honorary basis.
More than 5,100 people from over 40 countries have received official qualifications as experts in sustainable building through the DGNB Academy. For an overview of all DGNB auditors and consultants, please click here.
