The German Sustainable Building Council was founded in 2007 and has around 1,600 members, making it Europe's biggest network for sustainable building. It was the brainchild of 16 pioneers from the construction and property industry. The goal at the time was to promote and foster sustainable building. The DGNB was officially launched on 25 June 2007 with 121 founding members.
