DGNB Certification: Global Benchmark for Sustainability

As a planning and optimisation tool for assessing sustainable buildings and districts, the DGNB System helps to promote genuine sustainability in construction projects. It is based on a holistic understanding of sustainability that takes into account the environmental quality, social aspects and economic efficiency. There are several variants of the DGNB System depending on the type of construction project, e.g. for new construction, use and renovation of buildings, construction sites, districts and exterior spaces. To date, more than 10,000 projects in over 30 countries have been recognised with DGNB awards.

Non-profit, participatory association and Europe's largest network for sustainable building: That is the DGNB

Founded in 2007, the DGNB is now the largest network of its kind in Europe and number 2 worldwide, with more than 2,800 member organisations. The overriding goal of our non-profit association is to actively shape the transformation of the construction and real estate industry, to promote understanding of the need for sustainable building and to anchor it in the consciousness of the general public. We are committed to proven good buildings, liveable districts and a sustainable built environment.
Taking initiative – in Europe and worldwide
In addition to our own understanding of sustainability, the DGNB also considers the EU's sustainability goals. This includes conformity with the EU Taxonomy's objectives and requirements. Property owners can have their properties assessed for conformity with these criteria by the DGNB and other Climate Positive Europe Alliance (CPEA) partners using an ESG Verification for the EU Taxonomy. This verification is based on the currently available Taxonomy criteria and applies to three economic activities defined in the Taxonomy: new construction, renovation as well as acquisition and ownership.

SHIFT – the global initiative to challenge modern standards in architecture
SHIFT (Southern Heritage and Insights for Transformation) is a global initiative that’s all about joining forces and taking action to make the construction industry more sustainable – genuinely sustainable. By involving experts and everyone who lives in communities. Its goal is to shape a new understanding of sustainable architecture, highlight the factors that have a real impact and promote a culture of mutual learning.
