Window to the future: Consense 2012 - International Trade Fair and Congress for Sustainable Building, Investment, Operations and Maintenance from June 19 to 20 in Stuttgart, Germany

In its fifth year, Consense 2012 is well-positioned for success – with a conference featuring renowned experts, a trade fair with a wide range of exhibitors and international visitors. This interdisciplinary event looks at the big picture, presenting the entire spectrum of sustainable building at the international trade fair and congress for sustainable building, investment, operations and maintenance from June 19 to 20, 2012.

Organized by Messe Stuttgart and the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB - Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen e.V.), Consense has established itself as the flagship event for sustainable building in Europe. This leading position is one reason that the World Green Building Council (WGBC) has decided to hold its annual conference at Consense. The forum of experts with members from over 80 countries is meeting in Europe for the first time. The Council is the world's largest network of non-profit organizations that are committed to more sustainability in the construction and real estate industries, setting new standards.

On the evening before Consense, the event will be kicked off with the World Green Building Night. Franz Untersteller, Baden-Wuerttemberg's Minister of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector, has accepted the invitation to attend the opening of this gala, along with experts from around the world.

Consense sets trends in the construction and real estate industries, bringing together all the important players – architects, investors, facility managers, local government representatives and manufacturers have an opportunity to network and find inspiration.

The overarching theme of this year's conference is "Perspectives for 2020: Challenges and Opportunities for the Built Environment." Renowned international experts are scheduled to attend the plenum each day: Curt Garrigan of the UNEP; Ken Yeang, ecological pioneer for design and architecture and Johann Tomforde, founder of the Competence & Design Center for Mobility Innovations. This underscores Consense's important role in bringing together top experts from different branches.

Over 20 workshops will be held to allow participants to focus on issues and deepen their knowledge. They will have the opportunity to look more closely at specific questions and hold discussions with competent partners. For example, workshops will examine challenges and solutions for sustainable city districts, best practice examples for optimization and operation of existing buildings, sustainable building in the health sector and possible funding models for the future.

At the international trade fair, manufacturers, service providers and retailers will present current trends and innovations. There will be opportunities for discussing entrepreneurial ideas and forming new networks. The Forum and Stage event podiums offer an attractive location for conference speakers, exhibitors and trade fair visitors to meet. Here visitors will have an opportunity to ask questions of the expert presenters and gather information on innovative product developments.

Another highlight will be the public presentation of DGNB certificates and pre-certificates to well-planned and implemented buildings and objects which serve as models of future-oriented planning and building.
