DGNB's international growth continues

The certification system of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) continues to gain international momentum.

Just recently, Bulgaria's largest shopping centre became the first building in the country to be awarded a gold DGNB certificate. Another building was honoured in Hungary on 3 October. The first projects in Switzerland are currently in the pilot phase and are now pending certification.

Furthermore, the DGNB wants to press ahead with further international exchanges of information and proliferation of the certificate, and has thus started the 'Introduction to DGNB' international events programme throughout Europe. This serves to present the DGNB system and its international applications, to expand the DGNB's international network and to give its partner organisations local support in their work. DGNB experts have thus already given talks in Montenegro and Bulgaria on opportunities for training to become a DGNB consultant or auditor. These events are being organised in collaboration with interested parties and international partner organisations of the DGNB. The roadshow's next stop will be Barcelona on 10th October. The programme of events will be extended into next year.

The DGNB's increasingly international scope is also reflected in GreenConServe, an important EU-level project. The non-profit organisation acts as German consortium partner. The European Commission's funding programme supports
small and medium-sized businesses in preparing to deal with the topic of sustainable building.

German Sustainable Building Council
The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) was founded in Stuttgart in 2007. In an effort to promote sustainable building, the Council resolved to develop a certification system to honour particularly environmentally friendly, economically efficient buildings that conserve resources and have been optimised in terms of user comfort – the German Sustainable Building Certificate.
The DGNB has more than 1050 members from all sectors of the building and property trade in Germany. A network of partner organisations in several countries ensures international adaptation and application of the certification system.
