Die DGNB Sustainability Challenge

DGNB Sustainability Challenge

Questioning the status quo, initiating something new and bringing about change: that's what genuine innovations are about. Innovation has many faces - also with regard to the construction and real estate industry and their handling of sustainability issues. Providing innovations with a platform and honoring the best of them is the aim of the DGNB Sustainability Challenge. We are looking for pioneering companies and ambitious people with their innovative business models, products and research projects.

Applications were open until April 18, 2022. Now the finalists have been selected.

Digital pitch of the finalists

After the initial selection process by the jury, the best participants per category will have the opportunity to present their projects at a digital pitch event on 31 May 2022.

  • from approx. 15:00: Pitch of the finalists of the category Start-up

Selection process and announcement of the winners

Other than last year, the winners per category will not be determined via open online voting. Instead, the competition jury will select the winner in addition to the top 3 per category. In the "Research" category, a special prize will again be awarded for a student project. Furthermore, there is a cross-category audience award, which is based on the results of online voting and on-site voting at the DGNB Sustainability Day.

The jury of the DGNB Sustainability Challenge again includes the representatives of the DGNB Innovation Advisory Board. However, it has been supplemented by additional experts in order to include an even wider range of expertise in the selection process.

On July 8, 2022, the finalists will be able to present themselves once again to visitors to the DGNB Sustainability Day - in short presentations and with their own exhibition area. In addition, the winners of the Sustainability Challenge 2022 will be awarded on this day.

Innovators could apply for the DGNB Sustainability Challenge in three categories:

Category: Innovation

Companies with a product or service innovation that is different from existing solutions on the market and makes an important contribution to climate protection or the circular economy.

Category: Start-up

Start-up companies (up to 5 years after the company was founded) that break new ground with their innovative business model and promote sustainability in the construction and real estate industry.

Category: Research

Scientists with ongoing or completed research projects who make an important contribution to the transformation of the construction and real estate industry towards more sustainability.

Additional: Special prize for a student project

In their application, participants must highlight the novelity of their product, business model or research project and what contribution they are making to sustainability, climate protection or circular economy.
