What is DGNB International?

DGNB International is the international partnership network of the DGNB. Its primary motivation is the pressing need for an internationally harmonized certification system – adapted to local conditions, yet able to compare building performance directly between countries – with which to support and encourage the planning and evaluation of sustainable buildings around the world. The problems of climate change, resource depletion, financial crisis are global problems – requiring global solutions.

One world.  One vision.
The objective of DGNB International is to spread the expertise of the DGNB around the world, and to make the DGNB certification system and its guidelines available for successful integration in other countries. To achieve this, the system and its many criteria must be conscientiously adapted to meet specific local conditions (climatic, social, cultural, technical, legal, political, and economic). These adaptations are made possible by the high degree of flexibility of the system, already demonstrated by its implementation in the first international projects shortly after its official debut in Germany.

The vision of DGNB International is clear: The establishment of a unified quality standard based on unified target values developed by all network partners on the basis of locally adapted and practically tested variations of the DGNB certificate. This standard will make possible direct comparisons between certified buildings in different countries, and the collaborative development process will furthermore increase the profile of sustainable buildings as an integral part of our built environment.
