What does a DGNB Consultant do?

  • Consultants use their specific knowledge of the structure and criteria of the DGNB System (System Knowledge) in order to provide expert advice to companies and authorities.
  • This is ideal for all those whose work relates to the DGNB certification process but who do not want to act as an auditor themselves - (yet).
  • This qualification provides an excellent basis for subsequent accreditation as a DGNB Auditor.

Admission requirements

Completed academic studies in architecture, civil or construction-related engineering, natural sciences, economics or building physics and
  • 2 years of relevant professional experience following completion of a post-graduate degree or
  • 3 years of relevant professional experience following completion of an undergraduate degree or
  • training in the real estate or construction sectors with 5 years of relevant professional experience

What does a DGNB Auditor do?

  • DGNB Auditors have comprehensive knowledge of the structure, criteria and practice-based aspects of the DGNB System.
  • This qualification is aimed at all those who want to monitor and document the planning and construction process from the beginning to the end in accordance with the DGNB System and who want or need to be able to consult with specialist planners at an equal level. 
  • Auditors can prepare and submit audits using the DGNB Certification method


Admission requirements

Completed academic studies in architecture, civil or construction-related engineering, natural sciences, economics or building physics and

  • 4 years of relevant professional experience following completion of a post-graduate degree or
  • 6 years of relevant professional experience following completion of an undergraduate degree or
  • at least 8 years of professional experience and involvement in planning processes for sustainable building.

System Knowledge and Exams

Course 2: System Knowledge:
A four-day course followed by an online exam provides candidates with a thorough understanding of how the criteria are assessed and the overall score is calculated.

Exam 2: DGNB Consultant

Course 3: Audit of a pilot project

In order to qualify as a DGNB Auditor, DGNB Consultants are required to complete a hands-on case book audit. In order to do this, participants need to have gained a thorough understanding of the Certification method through the DGNB Consultant training. Participants will also need to draw on their comprehensive basic knowledge of approaches to sustainability in the built environment, such as that provided by the DGNB Registered Professional training course. For the Auditor qualification, participants are provided with a package of example evidence and are required to conduct an audit and submit their work for review in the form of a standard conformity check.

Exam 3: DGNB Auditor
The DGNB Auditor qualification is awarded on successfully completing a pilot project audit and allows participants to prepare and submit audits using the DGNB Certification method.

Upgrade Course

The System is developed and updated continually. Upgrades are provided in order to bring Consultants and Auditors up to date with new certification schemes. Our range of Upgrades is based on the training for NOA10 and includes the following options:
  • Upgrade to the foundation course for adapted schemes in our respective partner countries. This allows you to receive further training through additional upgrades for new schemes and versions of the adapted DGNB System.
  • Upgrade to further schemes.
  • The duration of the upgrade courses varies between half a day and a whole day.
